Errmm NO,  it is the UK remember? And I was cold, cold, cold…hands and fingers found it difficult to navigate around the piano :/

Before I went on I was trying to warm up with a scarf and thermal gloves! (May, really?)

Really enjoyed playing locally at The Eccies on 13th April. Paul Salvi is doing a really good job at getting live music thriving here and although we know it’s hard to please everyone, Paul is doing a damn good job at offering a variety of acts. A wonderful edition of K’s Choice last night, with some fantastic performances from very talented folk…

Next the mood and tempo were changed with a top performance by pianist, vocalist and songwriter Debbie Richards. Her songs have a lyrical and uplifting quality that captivated the audience, and it was a real treat to hear her in such strong form.

Phew, what a great night’s entertainment! I’m telling you folks, if you haven’t been to K’s Choice yet, you are missing a wonderful Wednesday night. See you next time

MOTHER’S DAY

Enjoyed playing 40 min set last night at the Blue Room Blackpool

I said that for as long as I can I am going to take lines from songs and comment on them- their meaning …to me.

I thought I would start with my own songs – intrigued…?

Some of you already know that I wrote ‘My Nightingale’ about my lovely mum, for my mum. I pondered over each lyric I used in this song, trying to give them all the meaning of how I feel about her…they just ‘touch‘ the surface…:)

I used a Nightingale because we sometimes call her ‘Flo’ as in Florence Nightingale – a comparison to my mum’s kindness  and giving nature. Birds are just beautiful and the sweetness of the Nightingale’s voice, her voice…

‘Flying’gives the sense of being free and always yourself,  exactly how she makes me feel when I’m with her…

I thought I would start with my own songs and give you an insight to what the lines are relating to- we like that sort of stuff don’t we? I know there are songs that I listen to and I often wonder what the artist meant by them – intrigued…

Mum and dad would take us to Spain during the winter as they owned a double glazing company at the time, and so we would be limited to when we could go on holiday- two weeks summer, two week Christmas. Christmas weather was always a bit iffy and after our British weather I was always looking forward to getting out to soak up some sun…and would be disappointed when it was cloudy (wouldn’t bother me as much nowadays;) Dad would shout upstairs and say ‘ Ive been up all morning blowing away these clouds Debs, so you can get some sun today…’
